A Continuing Competence workshop will be held in CAC's office building in the first floor conference room. It will begin at 9:30 am on Monday, May 12, 2008, and end at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Box lunches each day are included in the $295.00 registration fee.

The workshop will explore in depth the efficacy of various methodologies for assessing and demonstrating the current competence of health care professionals, including...

  • Written or oral exams;
  • Peer review;
  • "360" reviews;
  • Consumer satisfaction surveys;
  • Self-reflection leading to self-directed learning portfolios;
  • Evaluation by "standardized patients";
  • On-site practice review;
  • Simulation;
  • Self-Assessment.

An expert faculty will examine actual experience with and potential applicability of each of these methodologies, taking into consideration that they are...

  • Administratively feasible;
  • Publicly credible;
  • Professionally acceptable;
  • Legally defensible;
  • Economically affordable.
